Layers Layers Layers!

One of my favorite fall and winter pieces is my black down vest. I seriously wear it a ton each year. It’s a great layering piece, it keeps you warm and it's cute!   I wore it last weekend while site seeing at Lake Placid, NY.   It was the perfect layering piece as the temps started out cold, warmed up a little and then got cool again in the evening.  Also, I love to pair it with my favorite long sleeve tees and flannels which I adore. My Nike shoes are on sale marked down to $59.98 which is a much lower price than I paid. 🖤  Upstate New York is absolutely gorgeous this time of year.  I was in autumn heaven and I love being in the mountains especially when God has taken His paintbrush and brushed the trees with such gorgeous colors!  Get outfit details under the bottom photo of this post.

Pumpkin Bars With Cream Cheese Frosting

Tonight we had our staff over to our home so I baked one of my favorite fall desserts and that is Pumpkin Bars.  This is one of the yummiest desserts and it's super easy and very quick to make.  It's also one of the moistest bar or cake type desserts that I have ever tasted.  It got high reviews tonight from our staff so I thought I would post it here on the blog because many of them were asking for the recipe.  Let me know how you like it if you ever make it.

Pumpkin Bars
Ingredients
4 eggs
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 c. flour
1 cup oil
1 cup pumpkin
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder

FROSTING

6 T butter melted

Sunday Morning Moment

It is important that we walk in obedience, put our complete trust in God and to have ever increasing faith because Satan is always looking to knock us out. He actually never gives up trying to bring us down. I read in my devotions today, that if Satan doesn't defeat you by coming to you as a devouring lion, he will try again as the deceiving serpent. Only you or I who can make the decision to obey God and begin equipping ourselves to have victory over the enemy. We need to be vigilant, be watchful, stay strong and refuse to compromise.  We can't listen to lies of the enemy for this is usually how he comes . .bringing fear, doubt, anxiety, worry and more. The best thing we can do is to keep the Word inside us and always remember all of God's promises.  I pray you all have a blessed Sunday!  Enjoy your family, your friends and this incredible day!

The First Apple Crisp Of The Season

Fall is my favorite season and baking is one of my favorite past times so you put the two of them together and you get a whole lot of goodness.  Since we live in Florida I love bringing the outside in to make it feel like fall so I decorate with fall wreaths, fall leave swags, pumpkins and more.  I usually wait to start my fall baking once the first cool front arrives and that happened last week so I made an Apple Crisp or as my mom and grandmother call it, an Apple Betty.

I love apple anything but I LOVE apple pie and apple crisp.  In fact, growing up my mom never made me birthday cakes . . she always made me an apple pie.  That's how much I love them!  To me there is nothing more relaxing than baking a pie.  The process of peeling and cutting the apples is so relaxing and takes me back to an older place in time when things  and times were much slower.

This recipe is super simple to make but it's SO GOOD.  Let me know if you ever try it and how you like it.

Emily's Apple Crisp

Ingredients

Pie Filling
1 Bag of Granny Smith Apples - peeled and sliced (I like mine sliced thin)
2 T orange juice
1/2 sugar
2 T flour

Crumble Topping
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 cup butter (softened)

Drizzle the 2 T of orange juice over peeled, sliced apples.  This helps to keep the apples from turning brown and gives your apple crisp an added punch of flavor.   Then mix in a small bowl 1/2 cup sugar and 2 T flour. Pour over apples and mix well. Put apple mixture in a pie plate - I love using a stoneware pie plate but any will do.
In the small bowl mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp ginger. Mix well . . then cut in the 1/4 cup of butter. Evenly distribute mixing on top of apple mixture. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place pie plate on cookie sheet in the pre-heated oven.  Cover sides of pie with foil or I like to use a pie crust shield and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil or pie shield and bake another 30 minutes. Let it sit for about an hour before eating so the juices thicken.  Under this photo I linked a smilier pie plate plus the pie crust shield.

Rootie The Rootlifter!

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of the VOLOOM family of hair volumizing tools - Rootie The Rootlifter which was given to me to try!  Rootie is a volumizing iron designed to give your hair instant lift and volume! It does this by creating natural looking, subtle texture in the under layers of your hair by lifting the top layers of your hair up and away from your scalp.

You use this as a last step on a dry- styled hair and you’ll get volume in minutes. Rootie enhances any hairstyle including short hair, ponytails, curly hair or straight hair.

This tool is designed to replace messy hair teasing or ineffective hair volume products which may result in product buildup, leaving your hair dull and lifeless.

Whether you are looking for suttle lift or full-on volume, Rootie is a perfect tool to try on days when your hair just needs the extra lift.

Rootie  would also make a great Christmas gift so think about it when you are making out your Christmas lists.  To purchase Rootie or any of the other Voloom tools click on widgets below.

My FAVORITE Cozy Cardigan And The Easiest Scarf To Style!

That smile you see on my face is because I’m surrounded by fall colors and I’m not sweating while I’m actually taking my pictures.  Carlos and I went to upstate New York for five days and so I took advantage of the gorgeous weather to wear some of my fall favorites.  This cardigan  is from my ultimate favorite brand when it comes to cozy cardi's.  In fact, I am wearing a this one right now as I am writing this blog post. :-)  They are a little pricey but honestly I have never wore anything as soft and cozy as this brand.  In the fall and winter I literally have one on every morning and evening.  They make great robes too.  You have to actually try one on and feel what I am talking about.  They are super soft and super cozy and you will want to wear it ALL the time :-). I usually add one to my collection each year or put it on my gift list when my hubby or parents ask what I want.   They also make wonderful Christmas gifts.
Also, I love eternity scarves and this particular one  is from last year but I linked the new one for this season from the same brand which is extremely similar.   Eternity scarves make wearing scarfs so easy you just put it over your head twist it once and put it over your head again.  Plus this one is great because it's not bulky material. You can find all the outfit details under the bottom picture of this post.

How To Cure A Bulky Blanket Scarf

When I packed for our trip to New York I knew I would be dressing in layers.  The weather in upstate New York this past weekend was absolutely gorgeous. 🍁🍁 High 60’s during the day and mid 40’s at night so layers was a necessity. 🍁🍁 The first picture I’m wearing an oatmeal colored tunic with a blanket scarf that I actually cut in half so I would have less bulk.  Blanket scarves are awesome but truth be told when I wear them I feel like they are swallowing me up.  So, before I left for New York I decided to cut this one in half and wow . . .what a total game changer.  I loved it and it still gave me the look I needed and the warmth without it being overkill.

The picture taken with the cognac leather jacket was taken in the evening when the temps had cooled down.  I wore this leather jacket multiple times while in New York and it was such an awesome layering piece and kept me warm too.  My jacket and jeans are current and I linked very similar items for the rest. Get outfit details under the bottom picture of this post.

70's Fashion Still Blowing In For Fall 2017

The cool northern winds are starting to blow across our nation and finally here in Central Florida. What a welcomed relief from the heat and humidity. 💨  One style trend that has blown in for 2017 is 70's fashion and it's here for fall 17 too.  Every wardrobe should have at least one peasant top.  These flowy tops pair perfect with skinny jeans but also in keeping with the 70's fashion trend, flares are a perfect match too. Also, try pairing it with a denim skirt too for another fun look.  You will find them in solids like this one I am wearing in these pics or fun prints with embroidery detail and even tassels.  This peasant top is currently sold out but I found other cute long sleeve tops by the same brand which you can find under the bottom photo.
